Article // Climate change will unevenly impact the European financial system

In this article Paul Hiebert, Head of the Systematic Risk and Financial Institutions Division at the ECB, discusses the impact climate change could have on the EU financial system, linking financial exposures of thousands of banks, insurance companies, and investment funds to millions of firms subject to climate risk.

Paul breaks down the different types of risk exposure, and puts forward the case for more modelling as a logical next step.  Read the full article here.

Article // Modelling predicts a $3bn loss over 20 years for proposed Australian gas plant Kurri Kurri

Monash University senior research fellow Ross Gawler modelled the operating costs of the 660 megawatt Kurri Kurri plant in NSW’s Hunter Valley, putting its financial viability in serious doubt.

The chief executive of Snowy Hydro, Paul Broad, has rejected this analysis and any claims that they would have to "game the market" by charging higher prices in peak periods in order to avoid substantial losses.
