Inflation - scare tactics with no understanding
There is, as you have no doubt noticed, a cost of living crisis taking place at the moment. Fuel costs, energy bills, even the cost of the weekly trip to the supermarket, are increasing significantly as inflation seemingly spirals out of control.

Making numbers count
Until very recently, most languages had no words for numbers greater than five - anything from six to infinity was known as 'lots'. In his new book, Chip Heath argues that numbers need to be translated into terms people can understand to be properly understood.
Chip argues: "The work that is being done to understand the most meaningful things in the world—ending poverty, fighting disease, conveying the scale of the universe, telling a heartbroken teen how many other times they will fall in love—is being lost because of the lack of translation."
He outlines six principles for translating numbers into a form people can understand. The best thing about this book is all the "before and after" examples of how to make the meaning of numbers come alive by applying these principles. Highly recommended for anybody who has to communicate numbers. Get the book.

Improve your productivity with time blocking
A lot of people, me included, struggle with getting everything done that needs to get done. We are too busy to make time for everything. I've been experimenting with time blocking and it's helping. Time blocking involves using our calanders for more than meetings with other people. It means blocking time for specific tasks as well. And it can extend beyond work also. As Jonathan Estrin says “The way we spend our time defines who we are.” Read more
