The Modeller’s Miscellany #133

Standardising business reports

I'm a long-time fan of standards in financial modelling. When I came across IBCS and its work on creating standards for business reporting, I was immediately intrigued. This week I hosted a webinar with Edyta Szarska, a trainer at IBCS Institute. She introduced the concept of standardising how we compile business reports and charts. It's brilliant. Check out the webinar recording, the standards and their book which explains the system. I think this is an idea whose time has come and is a must-have for anyone who is trying to communicate effectively with data.

The economics of the stock market

Don't be put off by the title. This book isn't a dry economics lecture, nor a book on "how I got rich on the stock market". Instead, it's a full-on attack on the consensus models of how the stock market and the economy interact. The author argues that these models are based on inconsistent assumptions and are more religious than science. One for your Christmas wish list.
