Question of the Week: What Best Practices do we ignore
This week, they confess the best practices that they don't follow... be prepared for some shocks 😲.
Some sound pretty out there, but I agree with all of them (well, the Excel ones – no idea about the PowerBI ones!) – as always, it’s all about context - which you’ll need to listen to get.
Mark
- Uses Merge & Center
- Doesn’t always use the simplest formula that he could
Sue
- Sometimes uses calculated columns in PowerBI
- Could be better at documentation
Wyn
- Separation of Inputs, workings and outputs
- Doesn’t always hide unused columns and dimension keys in PowerBI
- Needs to be better with accessibility
- Doesn’t mark he calendar as a data table – which based on Sue’s response is very naughty!
Giles
- You should always be prepared to bend the rules if it delivers a better outcome
