PIVOT TABLE #SPILLing
A recent change to PivotTables, that is now live for most 365 users, is a new error handling method for PivotTables.
This was released in the beta insider channel in October and has been released in the current channel over the last few months.
Before this change, if you refreshed your PivotTable and it hit some existing text, or another PivotTable, you would be shown an error message along the lines of “It has not been possible to refresh PivotTableXXX…”.
This has now been replaced with a hashtag#SPILL! error message in a single cell.
This is quite an unusual move for Microsoft. They rarely change functionality that has been live for such a long time. I can imagine that it could cause issues for a few users, as it is no longer quite as obvious that there is a problem.
I used to find the message pretty annoying to be honest, but at least you knew you needed to fix something!
Let's take a look at a walkthough
